Okay so it has officially begun! Welcome to my blog everyone, I hope you enjoy it. Yesterday was a fun attempt at doing banners and all sorts of fun stuff! I hope that the next few weeks brings around great enjoyment for everyone involved. Here is my platform for all the electorate.

Laura Schultz for VP ACADMEIC!

Hi my name is Laura Schultz and I am running for VPA. Currently I am the Communication and Culture Rep. Quality is one of the hottest academic issues in the SU and for the University. During my campaign I will be wearing a gold ribbon on my bag to symbolize my commitment to improving quality. I will be handing out ribbons over the next couple weeks and you too can join in!

EXPERIENCE
-General Faculties Council
-Teaching Excellence Co-Chair
-Student Appeals
-Academic Programs Committee
-Faculty Promotions Committee
-Research Policy and Development

INSIGHT
Carefully constructed academic policy, sound representation and enhancement of SU academic related programs are vital to ensuring a quality academic experience for students.

ISSUE INVESTIGATION

DEGREE GRANTING COLLEGES
As Alberta colleges begin to grant degrees policy needs to be created to ensure that the U of C still adheres to the Institutional Learning plan that identifies the university as a learning centered environment.

RESEARCH
A review of current undergraduate research opportunities and experiences need to be addressed. Additionally, SAA must keep abreast of research activities in the university.

OTHER ISSUES
There are other issues that need to be looked at including:
-top down admission
-blended learning
-inquiry based learning and
-liberal arts initiative

QUALITY SURVEY
-Results of the quality survey need to be utilized
-Academic policy must be derived from these results.
-These results need to be compared to the current Academic Plan and findings presented to both council and administration

IMPLEMENTATION

ACADEMIC APPEALS
-There are flaws in the appeals system
-Discrepancies will be reduced through the creation of teaching program using the current Student Rights Advisor
-All appeal committee members could voluntarily access this extensive training to be better equipped.

QUALITY CAMPAIGN
-Creation of a public campaign about quality at U of C using external and academic portfolios.
-Focus on academic issues.

STUDENT RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITES
-Students need to be more aware of their liberties and duties
-Replacement of the existing code of conduct with a strong and concise document.
